Israel: Vaccination of children aged 5-11 starts on Tuesday

Vaccination of children aged 5-11 with the Pfizer / BioNtech vaccine for Covid-19 will begin on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced today.

“From this Tuesday, children will also be able to be vaccinated,” Bennett said on his Facebook page, promising “full transparency” on the issue.

According to Pfizer clinical trials in thousands of children, the vaccine is 90.7% effective against symptomatic disease.

About 5.7 million of the 9 million Israelis have received both doses of the vaccine, and authorities have been campaigning for the boost since the summer.

Earlier today, Canada also gave the “green light” for vaccinating children aged 5-11 with the Pfizer / BioNtech formulation. In the United States, vaccinations of children began in early November. In China, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia and Colombia, children under the age of 12 can be vaccinated with the Chinese drug Sinovac.
