At least 40,000 people have walked from northern Gaza to southern regions since “periodic evacuation corridors” were established by the Israel Defense Forces last Saturday (4), according to the United Nations Refugee Agency Palestinians.
In a statement published this Wednesday (8), the agency reports that the IDF has repeatedly called on civilians to move towards the South as they intensify attacks aimed at targeting the radical Islamic group Hamas.
UN monitors and non-governmental organizations are providing water and biscuits to the evacuated population.
Nearly 1.5 million people in the Gaza Strip have been displaced since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, the agency said.
