Israel will extend vaccination to children aged 12-15

Israel today announced the extension of its Covid-19 vaccination campaign to 12-15 year olds, despite a “possible link” between the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and cases of myocarditis found in young men.

More than 5 million of the 9.3 million Israelis (55% of the population) have received both doses of the vaccine, thanks to a massive vaccination campaign launched in late December following a deal with the pharmaceutical giant. Pfizer.

The company distributed millions of doses in exchange for data on the side effects of vaccination in the country, which has digital medical databases about its population.

The health authorities recommend the “imminent vaccination” of adolescents, who are likely to be infected with a serious form of coronavirus and those whose family is at risk.

“Apart from the risk groups, all those who will be interested” will be able to be vaccinated, the Ministry of Health states in a press release, clarifying that the vaccination of 12-15 year olds will start next week.

“The vaccine is effective and safe” and the inherent risks of the virus outweigh the risks associated with the vaccine, the ministry said after announcing yesterday a “possible link” between the Pfizer vaccine and cases of myocarditis in young men.
