Israel's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday (22) that it ordered the immediate withdrawal of its ambassadors to Ireland and Norway in response to those nations' decision to formally recognize the Palestinian state.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said the decision to recognize the Palestinian state undermined Israel's right to self-defense and efforts to return 128 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
“Israel will not remain silent,” Katz said. “We are determined to achieve our goals: restoring the security of our citizens, the removal of Hamas and the return of the hostages.”
“There are no fairer goals than these,” Katz said.
Also this Wednesday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that the country's council of ministers will recognize the independent Palestinian state next Tuesday, the 28th.
With the decision of Ireland, Norway and Spain, 146 of the 193 UN member states will recognize the Palestinian State.
