The Israeli army said it struck dozens of Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon on Thursday (19).
The Israeli Air Force struck 30 launchers and “terrorist infrastructure sites” containing more than 100 barrels of weapons that fire projectiles. The Israeli airstrike also hit a weapons storage facility, the military said.
The strikes follow a pledge by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Thursday that Israeli military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon will continue.
Hezbollah said it attacked several military sites in northern Israel with rockets and drones throughout the day on Thursday.
The Iran-backed group described these attacks as being in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel and Hezbollah — an Iran-backed paramilitary group in Lebanon — have been at odds for decades, but the two have stepped up cross-border attacks against each other since October last year, when the war in Gaza began.
This week’s events in Lebanon, which saw a pair of deadly attacks using explosives planted in wireless devices carried by Hezbollah fighters, have brought the long-running conflict into sharper focus.
Israel’s Defense Minister said a “new era” of warfare is beginning and “the center of gravity is moving north,” referring to the country’s border with Lebanon.
The Hezbollah leader said the wireless attacks “crossed all red lines” and hinted at possible retaliation.
