Israeli army says it ‘mistakenly’ killed two kibbutz residents in October 7 attack

The Israeli military announced today, citing the results of an internal investigation, that it may have killed two residents of a kibbutz during the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas. Investigators, to whom soldiers and civilians testified, were trying to determine the causes of death of Tomer Elias-Arava and his mother Dikla Arava, who lived in the Nahal Oz kibbutz, one of the communities hardest hit by the attack. According to the military, the investigation determined that 17-year-old Tomer Elias-Araba was initially kidnapped by Hamas fighters and forced to go door-to-door to persuade residents to come out. After an hour and a half, the teenager managed to escape and hide. Soldiers from a unit that had gone to help the kibbutz saw a “suspicious figure”, at which they fired. “The investigation concluded that it is very likely that this person was Tomer Elias-Arava, who was accidentally killed by (Israeli army) fire.” […]
