Israeli army sets one-hour deadline for evacuation of al-Shifa hospital in Gaza

The Israeli army gave a one-hour ultimatum to doctors, patients and displaced persons at al-Sifah hospital in Gaza Strip in order to evacuate the building under IDF control, according to medical sources cited by Al Jazeera.

The situation at the hospital

The Israel argues that the Hamas has a command center under the hospital, a claim the Palestinian militant group denies. Reuters has not been able to independently confirm the situation at the hospital.

The hospital, full of patients and evacuees, struggling to continue operating, has become the focus of global concern.

Not enough supplies

According to a doctor at the hospital, the Israeli army gave some supplies after storming the hospital but they are insufficient.

“What happened is that the world, we’re running out of food, we’re running out of drinking water,” Mohalalati said. “And then they made arrangements for little, just little food and water, which is very, very little, which does not cover, maybe 40% of the number of people that are around here.”

36 newborns are at risk

Dr. Mohamed Tabasa, head of al-Shifa’s pediatric department, said on Monday that three newborns had died as problems piled up at the hospital, and that the lives of the remaining 36 newborns were in danger.

“Until yesterday there were 36, fortunately none have lost their lives,” he said today.
