Israeli attack in Lebanon leaves two people dead

At least two people died and four were injured in an Israeli attack in Lebanon on Wednesday (14). The information was released by the country’s Ministry of Health.

The action took place in Marjayoun, a predominantly Christian city near Lebanon’s border with Israel.

The region has been the target of constant attacks between the Lebanese group Hezbollah and the Israeli Army since the beginning of the war in Gaza.

Israeli fire, initially confined to the Lebanese border area, is now targeting Hezbollah, Hamas and other figures further north in the country.

Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser to US President Joe Biden, was in Beirut on Wednesday (14) to try to contain an escalation of tension in the region.

The Middle East is on the brink of a major Hezbollah attack on Israel after the killing of a top commander of the Lebanese group in the suburbs of Beirut last month.

Hochstein said an all-out war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah could be avoided, but that the Israeli government and Hamas needed to move toward a Gaza peace deal without further delay.
