At least nine people were killed and 58 others were wounded in an Israeli attack in southern Beirut on Friday (20), Lebanon’s Health Ministry said. At least eight of those hospitalized are in critical condition, the ministry said.
The attack destroyed a multi-story building in a residential neighborhood. A team from CNN at the scene saw a mass mobilization to rescue people from under the rubble.
Israel said it killed Ibrahim Aqil, a senior Hezbollah member believed to be part of the elite Radwan force.
Tuesday’s offensive is the third against the Lebanese capital this year.
In January, an Israeli airstrike killed Saleh Al-Arouri, deputy head of Hamas’ military wing, who was living in Beirut.
In July, a second Israeli strike in Beirut killed Hezbollah’s top military officer, Fu’ad Shukr.
