An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed 13 displaced Palestinians and left families buried in the rubble, a spokesman for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital told CNN .
The attack hit a four-story building belonging to the Karaja family that housed at least 100 people displaced by the war, Civil Defense in Gaza said in a statement on Tuesday (14).
The children's bodies were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza.
The building was hit at around 2am local time this Tuesday while people were sleeping.
The death toll is expected to rise. A reporter from CNN who filmed the aftermath said he spoke to four people who said they had at least six family members missing in the rubble.
Videos shared on social media show people, including children, trapped under thick cement slabs as rescuers try to save them. The building was demolished.
Israeli forces have repeatedly attacked the Nuseirat camp, located north of Deir el-Balah, in recent months.
Tuesday's attack caused a fire at a nearby UN-run school, which is seen engulfed in flames in videos from the scene.
Another person died in a warehouse fire, according to our reporter at CNN on site.
A CNN has contacted the Israeli military and the UN for comment.
