Israeli attacks on two Lebanese cities killed at least nine people, including a city with a predominantly Sunni population, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
Four people were killed and 14 injured in an Israeli airstrike in Barja, a predominantly Sunni city about 20 miles south of Beirut, according to Lebanese health officials.
The attack in Barja stands out because Israel has hit targets in predominantly Shiite areas, where Hezbollah, the Lebanese group, tends to have more support.
Five people were killed and 14 were also injured in the city of Maaysra, in northern Lebanon, on Saturday (12), the ministry said. This is the second time Maaysra has been hit in recent weeks.
Another city in northern Lebanon, Deir Billa, was hit for the first time. The health ministry has not yet released the number of victims of that attack.
Deaths in Lebanon
More than 1,500 people have been killed and around 8,000 injured in attacks in Lebanon since September 16, when Israel stepped up its campaign against Hezbollah, according to a tally by CNN of statements from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
