An Israeli bombardment killed four people in southern Syria on Tuesday (25), Syria’s state news agency said. The Israeli army said his troops clashed with militants who opened fire against them.
Violence throughout the border area marks the increase in friction between Israel and Syria, where a new Islamist-led leadership was installed after rebels deprived former leader Bashar Al-Assad of Power in December.
Since then, Israel said that it will not tolerate an Islamic militant presence in southern Syria and sent its own troops to the Syrian border zone. Syrian leadership said it does not intend to open a front against Israel.
On Tuesday (25), the Israeli army said that militants in southern Syria opened fire against Israeli troops, without specifying whether the Israeli troops were in Syrian territory when they were shot.
The Israeli army said his troops revived the fire and that an Israeli war plane has hit the militants. It gave no details about the victims, but said that “the hits were identified.”
The Syrian state news agency said the fire of Israeli tanks in Koya, a city in Daraa province, killed four people and injured others, including one woman. A Syrian security source told Reuters that the number of dead should increase.
Previously, Israel said he had attacked two military bases in the province of Homs, in the center of Syria.
“Not long ago, Israel’s defense forces attacked military capabilities that remained in the Syrian military basis of Tadmur and T4,” said an Israeli military statement.
Israel spent years conducting air strikes in Syria during the Assad government, aiming at Iran -linked military facilities and transfers of Tehran weapons for the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which was highlighted in Syrian territory.
This route of arms was cut when Assad was knocked down, but Israel continued to attack on Syrian military basis.
European Union’s head of foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, warned on Tuesday that Israel’s attacks on Syria “are at risk of even greater climb.”
Speaking of a joint press conference with Israel Foreign Minister Giden Saar, Kallas said the duo discussed Israel’s actions.
“And we (the European Union) feel that these things are unnecessary, because Syria is not attacking Israel right now,” said Kallas.
