Israeli fighter jets break the sound barrier over Beirut

Israeli warplanes today broke the sound barrier over Beirut and other areas of Lebanon, security sources and Lebanese media reported. The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel runs alongside the nine-month-old war in Gaza. Although hostilities have been largely confined to areas near the border, the conflict has raised fears of a wider war. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that enemy planes broke the sound barrier by flying low over Beirut and its suburbs as well as over other parts of Lebanon. In Beirut, residents heard two bangs. There is currently no comment from the Israeli military. The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel is the worst since the full-scale war between them that broke out in 2006. Source: APE
