Israeli foreign minister rejects ceasefire for Lebanon conflict

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz stressed on Thursday (26) that “there will be no ceasefire in the north” and that Israel will continue fighting Hezbollah “with all our strength until victory and the safe return of northern residents to their homes.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said reports that there could be an imminent ceasefire in Lebanon were “incorrect” and that he had told his military to continue fighting with “full force.”

The United States and other allies have called for a 21-day pause in the conflict on the Israeli-Lebanon border as they work to prevent a regional war that could disrupt negotiations between Israel and Hamas to free hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah has yet to comment on the proposed deal, and Lebanese interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati has denied reports that he had signed the document.

Israel continues to attack Lebanon, carrying out more bombings against Beirut this Thursday (26).
