Israeli officials are said to be annoyed by the announcement by the Cypriot government and the Chevron company about the exploratory actions in the “Aphrodite” field, according to anonymous government sources cited in yesterday’s article by the financial paper The Marker of the authoritative Israeli newspaper HaAretz.
As reported by the Cyprus News Agency, according to the article, the decision of the Cypriot side was not taken after consultation with the Israeli Ministry of Energy as the relevant inter-ministerial negotiations are ongoing, in accordance with the framework agreed upon during the recent meeting of the Energy Ministers of Natasa Pilidou and Karin Elharar in Jerusalem.
However, the article states that Israel’s Ministry of Energy declined to comment on its content. A relevant response from the Chevron company is also cited, in which, among other things, it is stated that “any activity of the company in Cyprus is carried out in coordination with the Cypriot government and in accordance with the company’s obligations towards it”.
