Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett today condemned the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, but did not blame Russian forces.
“We are shocked by the horrific images – the horrific scenes – and we condemn them. The plight of Ukrainian civilians is enormous, and we are doing what we can to help,” Bennett told a televised news conference.
Israel has distanced itself from the start of its Russian invasion of Ukraine without criticizing Russia. Instead, Prime Minister Bennett is trying to mediate peace between Moscow and Kiev.
The Jewish state also wants to leave open the channels with the Russian army in Syria, where Israeli forces regularly launch airstrikes.
