Israeli police are investigating an explosion that killed one person in Tel Aviv on Sunday (18), a spokesman said, suggesting the incident could have been an attack by militants.
“It has been confirmed as a bomb blast,” the police statement said. “As a result of the explosion, one person, whose identity is still unknown, was killed and another person was moderately injured.”
“I can say that it could be a terrorist or criminal act. The terrorist option is more plausible,” said Tel Aviv district commander and deputy commissioner Peretz Amar.
Protesters set fire to city during anti-government rallies
On Saturday (17), protesters in Tel Aviv set a fire during an anti-government protest to warn of a regional escalation of the war if an agreement is not reached in ceasefire negotiations and hostage release.
Protesters wrote “agreement or escalation” in Hebrew on the ground near the fire.
Ceasefire talks in Doha, mediated by the United States, Qatar and Egypt, are due to resume next week.
Israel’s negotiating team expressed “cautious optimism” about the possibility of moving forward with a deal, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Saturday.
Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha told Al Jazeera TV on Saturday that Israel had added conditions to the ceasefire talks and accused Netanyahu of using those conditions to hamper the efforts.
