Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett traveled to Egypt today for a surprise visit and will hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Israeli media reported.
There was no immediate official confirmation of the visit from either Israel or Egypt.
Abu Dhabi’s crown prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan arrived in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh today to meet with Egypt’s president, the state-run Emirates news agency WAM reported.
Last week, Bennett described what he described as intensifying co-operation between Israel and Egypt, saying closer ties would contribute to regional security. The two countries signed a peace treaty in 1979.
Israel and Egypt agreed last week to expand their air links with a new direct flight between Tel Aviv and the Black Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, which is expected to begin next month.
Last September, Bennett visited Egypt to discuss bilateral relations, security and the economy with Sisi, the Israeli prime minister’s first official visit to the country in a decade.
