Israeli strikes kill eight people in south Lebanon, officials say

At least eight people were killed this Sunday (26) by Israeli attacks on villages in southern Lebanon, Lebanese security sources said.

They said two people were killed in Aita al-Shaab, three in Houla, two in Yaroun and a driver whose motorcycle was attacked along a main road in Naqoura.

Hezbollah said on Sunday it was mourning four of its fighters for the Israeli attacks and that it responded to the attacks by launching dozens of Katyusha rockets at Israeli army reserve units along Israel's northern border.

The fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which is taking place alongside the nearly eight-month war in Gaza, has been the most intense since 2006.

Increased shelling by both sides has fueled concerns of a larger war between the heavily armed adversaries.

Hezbollah has repeatedly stated that it will stop attacks when the Israeli offensive in Gaza ends, but that it is also ready to continue fighting if Israel continues to attack Lebanon.
