Israeli strikes on Syrian-Lebanese border ahead of ceasefire with Hezbollah

Syria’s official SANA news agency reported late Tuesday that Israeli airstrikes targeted at least two crossings on the Syrian-Lebanese border. The attack came shortly after Washington announced a cease-fire agreement between the Israeli army and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, which is expected to take effect in the early hours of the morning. According to the agency, “an Israeli attack targeted the Al-Arida and Dabusiya border posts”, on the Syrian-Lebanese border. Border crossings between the two states have been repeatedly targeted by the Israeli air force since September 23, when — after nearly a year of firefights between Hezbollah and the Israeli armed forces on the Lebanese-Israeli border — the conflict turned into open war, with the Israeli military launching a massive air campaign bombings and, seven days later, ground attacks in the southern part of Lebanese territory.
