Israeli Army spokesman Daniel Hagari said the country is on “high alert” this Tuesday (1st), minutes after the United States warned of an “imminent attack” by Iran against Israel.
Hagari reported that the air defense systems are fully prepared, but clarified: “So far, Israel does not perceive an imminent threat from Iran.”
During a short video message, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman said that Israeli military planes are currently “scanning the sky” for any Iranian threat.
“We are on high alert both offensively and defensively,” Hagari added, warning Iran that any attack on Israel “would have consequences.”
US says Iran is preparing imminent attack
The White House said, this Tuesday (1st), that Iran is preparing an “imminent attack” with ballistic missiles against Israel.
“The United States has indications that Iran is preparing to imminently launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel,” a senior US administration official said in a statement.
“We actively support defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack. A direct military attack by Iran against Israel will have serious consequences for Iran,” he added.
The US is prepared to do everything it can to help Israel intercept anything Iran fires at it, a US official told CNN .
These US efforts would be similar to how the US offered aid in April when Iran launched a wave of drones and missiles at Israel – the vast majority were successfully intercepted.
It was not immediately clear the scale of the attack the US is anticipating Iran to launch against Israel this time.
Tensions between Israel and Iran have risen significantly in recent weeks as Israel has stepped up its efforts against Hezbollah in Lebanon, an Iranian-backed group. Israel on Monday launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah .
