Israel’s ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Zonshine, clarified his country’s position regarding military operations in Lebanon, emphasizing that the objective is to target Hezbollah facilities, not the Lebanese civilian population.
In recent statements, Zonshine stated: “Israel’s intention, very clearly, is not to kill Lebanese, but to target Hezbollah’s activist activities and facilities. Nothing more.”
Challenges of military operations
The ambassador acknowledged the challenges faced in these operations, highlighting that many Hezbollah facilities are located in residential areas. “Unfortunately, as I said, these facilities are, in many cases, inside people’s homes,” explained Zonshine.
He argued that residents cannot claim ignorance of the situation, especially in houses with significant dimensions: “And the person who has his house at 1.6 of 4 or 5 meters cannot say, he did not know”.
Efforts to minimize collateral damage
Zonshine emphasized Israel’s efforts to conduct precise operations: “Israeli activity is trying to do this in a more surgical way. Serve only Hezbollah facilities and people.”
However, the ambassador admitted the possibility of errors and unintentional damage: “Unfortunately, they could be mistakes. Unfortunately, there is harm that happens in this regard and we are very sorry that unheard people suffer from this.’
The Israeli ambassador’s statements come at a time of growing tension in the region, with the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon threatening to escalate into a wider confrontation in the Middle East.
