Israel's (limited) attack on Iran

He announced it and he did it. At 4.30 am Israel responded to the Iranian attack last April 13th carried out with missiles and drones, most of which were intercepted. It was US television that gave the first news during the European night. ABC News, citing a senior US official, confirmed the attack and then Iranian state media came out to say that no nuclear sites were severely hit, but that there were explosions near Isfahan.

The precise details are not known, but the shape of the attack and its extent are limited, according to analysts. CNN experts say that it occurred in compliance with the requests of the US and allies not to increase tension in the region. Ian Bremmer, founding analyst of Eurasia Group, a geopolitical risk consultancy, writes in X that Israel's attack on Iran is a de-escalation. “They had to do something but the action is limited compared to the attack on Damascus which precipitated the crisis.” The prediction is that Tehran will not respond.

The US had been warned in advance of the Israeli attack on Iran according to some American media reports. However, the operation would not have been supported and Washington would have had no role in its execution.

Tehran has already opened its airspace and the airports of the Iranian capital are back in operation. State TV reports of what happened that three drones were seen in the sky over Isfahan and the air defense systems were activated and “destroyed these drones in the sky.” The target would have been a military installation. The same was written on X by Iranian space agency spokesman Hossein Dalirian. “They said we launched 500 drones and suicide missiles… now they respond with three of these quadcopters, which have all been shot down.” The Iranian state news agency «IRNA» reports: «Reports indicate that at the moment no large-scale attack or explosion caused by aerial threats has occurred».

Israel's response to Iran's attack arrived on the birthday of Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei, born on April 19, 1939. On some Israeli social media profiles we read: “Happy birthday, Khamenei”.
