The past year has been an “endless tragedy” for the Middle East, the UN announced today on the occasion of the first black anniversary of the deadly and unprecedented attack by militants of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in southern Israel. In the deadliest attack in Israel’s history, more than 1,200 people were killed and about 250 were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.
