With an escalation since yesterday progressing exponentially, the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon reached last Wednesday looks set to prove short-lived as Israel and Hezbollah engage in renewed strikes on each other. After a Hezbollah mortar attack on an Israeli army position in the Mount Dov area this afternoon, the first blow the Shiite group claimed after the ceasefire took effect, the Israeli government leadership responded with threats. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel would respond “strongly” against Hezbollah, while Defense Minister Israel Katz pledged a “tough response” to the Shiite group. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also said that Hezbollah committed a “serious mistake” by opening fire on Israel.
