Istanbul, the bomber arrested. Turkey blames the PKK

The Istanbul bomber was arrested yesterday afternoon who allegedly planted a bomb in Istiklal Caddesi, crowded shopping street, in the historic Beyoglu district, killing at least six people. This was announced by Interior Minister Soumeylan Soylu to the official Anadolu agency. It is not known whether it is precisely the woman accused by President Erdogan to be the author of the attack.

According to Minister Soylu, the responsibility for the attack lies with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). They have also been 21 other suspects arrested. “We believe the order for the attack was given by Kobane,” Soylu said. The attack, however, has not yet been claimed.

The Minister of Justice, Bekir Bozdag, added: «A woman sat on a bench for 40-45 minutes, and some time later there was an explosion. All data on this woman is currently under investigation. Either this bag contained a timer or someone activated it remotely. ‘ Erdogan called the attack “cowardly”, assuring that “the perpetrators will be exposed. May our people be sure they will be punished ”.

The six dead are all Turks. Among them a mother and her daughter, a father and daughter, husband and wife and another person. Of the 81 injured in all, 50 were discharged, but 31 are still in hospital. Two are in serious condition. The same street in Istanbul had already been hit by an attack as early as March 2016, when a suicide bomber killed five people.
