Pina detailed the authorities’ guidelines to face the period when the hurricane passes: “From today onwards, the advice is that you don’t leave your house anymore, don’t take any more cars.” He highlighted the forecast of winds of up to 250 km/h and the risk of severe flooding, with estimates of up to 4 meters high in some areas close to the water.
The student also mentioned that Tampa is still recovering from Hurricane Relin, which hit the region just two weeks ago, making the situation even more challenging for residents.
Fuel and supplies
As for personal preparations, João Victor reported that he and his three roommates acted quickly to secure essential supplies. “On Monday we went looking for supplies, the markets were already quite empty,” he said, highlighting the difficulty in finding some items and gasoline.
The focus was on non-perishable foods, such as canned goods, bread and fruit, anticipating the possibility of being without electricity for two to three days. The priority was to stock up on as much food and supplies as possible to get through the critical period.
Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise the population on safety procedures. The passage of Hurricane Milton represents yet another challenge for the region, which is facing a particularly intense hurricane season this year.
