Qualcomm’s board of directors unanimously elected Cristiano Amon to succeed Steve Mollenkopf as CEO. The change of the head of the company will take place on June 30, 2021.
Mollenkopf, now 52, has been with the company for 26 years, starting as an engineer. He has been the CEO of Qualcomm since March 2014. After leaving this post, Mollenkopf will continue to work for the company as a strategic advisor. Amon, now 50, has been with Qualcomm since 1995. Since January 2018, he has been the president of the company.

“I am immensely proud of everything we have accomplished at Qualcomm and the position the company currently holds as a global leader in wireless technology,” Mollenkopf said. “With our clearly established business model and our leadership in 5G, now is the right time for Cristiano to take over the leadership of the company and lead what I consider to be the greatest opportunity in the company’s history.”
