It is difficult to predict when China will return to buying Brazilian beef, says consultant

With China’s embargo on the purchase of Brazilian meat after the appearance of two atypical cases of mad cow in national herds, Brazilian beef exports fell 43% in October, according to the Brazilian Association of Meatpackers.

Even with the filing of the process by the World Organization for Animal Health, the Asian country, which is the main buyer of Brazilian meat, has maintained the veto for two months.

For the managing partner of MB Agro Consultoria, José Carlos Hausknecht, it is difficult to predict when the embargo will fall. “There is no problem with Brazilian meat production, the international institution that analyzes it has already said that. Nobody in the market understands why China is taking so long to start importing Brazilian meat again”.

According to Hausknecht, with the Chinese embargo “producers are suffering from the situation”, as demand is very weak.

“For the producer, the rancher, who bought a more expensive animal, which has a huge cost with feed, he is receiving less and is having a loss with these animals. So, it’s a problem for the productive sector.”
