It is impossible to buy servers even in the secondary market. The largest IT companies are asking the Russian government to find them computer equipment

VK sent a letter to the Ministry of Digital Transformation asking for help in purchasing “tens of thousands of servers.” The source writes that VK cannot purchase commercial batches of computer equipment on the market, which is necessary both to ensure the current operation of services and to scale the IT infrastructure.

The Ministry of Digital Development does not deny receiving the letter. At the moment, they “are taking measures to provide the public sector and commercial companies with a sufficient amount of Russian computing equipment that meets the highest requirements.” The Ministry of Industry and Trade “does not see any reason to escalate the situation” in the computer technology market: “Companies are operating as usual, no problems with the availability of products in the warehouse have been identified.”

Yandex is also experiencing problems with the purchase of new equipment, which stopped many of the planned investments in new and experimental services at home and abroad amid sanctions due to the situation in Ukraine.

The source writes that today it is practically impossible to buy commercial batches of new equipment in Russia: “It is impossible to buy servers even in the secondary market, used equipment scattered in early March, despite exorbitant prices.”

Alexandra Sysoeva, Head of Infrastructure Solutions at Croc, said that typical tasks for most clients can be completed using solutions from Russian manufacturers. However, other market participants claim that the stocks of Russian manufacturers of computer equipment are also running out. According to the director of Promobit, Maxim Koposov, now his company’s warehouses have a stock of components for only a few hundred servers.

The MCST has almost exhausted the reserves of the Elbrus 8C processor, but the Norsi-Trans server manufacturer has a fairly large batch of Elbrus 8SV processors. The general director of Norsi-Trans, Sergei Ovchinnikov, confirmed that his company had already raised the prices for its equipment by 2–2.5 times, adding: “But no one really appeals to us.”
