With the loosening of some protection measures and the spread of the Ômicron variant around the world, the infectologist at the Hospital das Clínicas of São Paulo, Ho Yeh Li, stated in an interview to CNN this Saturday (1), that it is necessary to continue with the recommended precautions against Covid-19.
“Continue to avoid crowding, especially indoors and if you have any respiratory symptoms. Do not ignore symptoms of runny nose and sore throat”, said the doctor.
“It is also necessary to include hygiene measures, such as hand hygiene, avoiding scratching your nose and eyes,” he added.
Due to fears over a new outbreak of coronavirus cases with the new variant, several cities did not have New Year’s Eve parties this year. However, Li said the crowds of indoor parties and the relaxed population are likely to result in more infections.
“Probably in 10 days or two weeks we will start to feel the impact in people who did not take the booster vaccination and gathered”, he said.
The doctor also asked people to complete the immunization, stressing that only one dose of the vaccine is not necessary to ensure adequate protection, and spoke about the importance of booster doses.
“Our first concern is to know what happened to the booster doses that people should have taken. We know that to fight Ômicron, we need those doses. But unfortunately, at the national level, this coverage is very low”, he said.
