Since 2013, a project to raise awareness against LGBTphobia has been underway at the state school Professor Joaquim Luiz de Brito, in the west of São Paulo.
Conceived by professor Fábio de Lima, the initiative is intended to inform students, and the community as a whole, about the importance of the debate on sexual and gender diversity.
“It is our duty as a human being to do something for the benefit of society, we, as educators, have a fertile field to make students aware of the importance of human values,” said Fábio, in an interview with CNN Radio on CNN No Plural+.
According to him, “this concern with social and school life must prioritize respect above all.”
The project encourages teamwork: “Students go through the execution process, making the decoration that will be placed in the school, in reception teams, cinema room, promotion.”
For the teacher, the actions cause a very large effect among the students, reducing homophobia and the difficulty of acceptance.
“Over these years, the initiative has produced positive results for the school, a lot has changed in a positive way for the students, they feel safe in the school environment”, he said.
In 2017, the project “Brito Sem LGBTFOBIA” won the Education Category of the seventeenth Parada LGBT+ Award.
