The first snows of this winter fell in London, a few days before Christmas and the Meteorological Service has already issued a yellow alert until today, Monday 12/12. The warning mainly covers Scotland, London and south-west England, where there are forecasts for temperature dips up to 15 degrees.
The snow have already caused travel problems, with all flights to and from Stansted Airport canceled yesterday.
According to BBC meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas, “after this very cold start, temperatures will struggle to get above freezing in places.” As he said the cold spell will continue for the next few days, with the possibility of problems due to ice, sleet and frost.
The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA), which has issued a cold weather alert until Friday, is advising residents to stay in warm places and especially look out for vulnerable groups.
