Seu Darci Pelisser, 79, was on another day of dealing with cattle in the countryside. A resident of the locality of Pedra de Amolar, in Maquiné, on the north coast of Rio Grande do Sul, was surprised on Sunday (4) by the attack of what he believes to be a Puma.
On the morning of Tuesday (6), CNN Brazil spoke with Darci Pelisser’s wife, CLACI. She said that the elderly recover at home. On the day of the attack, according to his wife, it was still supposed to be at rest, as he recently had a saphenous surgery. Even so, the farmer decided to play the work in the field.
According to Celaci, he was on horseback, in the company of the family dog. The dog would have started barking for a denser vegetation area. To see what it was, Darci would have descended from the horse and approach the point in the direction of the dog bark.
“He was curious. The dog was barking, he got out of the horse, because where there was this place the horse he was could not get in there, he was walking and jumped him, knocked him down.”
Darci tried to protect himself with a machete that carried with him. Celaci says he doesn’t know if he even hit the animal, but it was the dog that helped stop the attack.
“When he advanced to my husband, the dog helped,” says the wife. According to her, the dog was not injured.
The Environmental Command of the Military Brigade (CABM) is looking for Puma, also called the Prada. The agents talk to popular and neighbors from the residence where the attack occurred to assist in the search.
According to Lieutenant Jeferson Zanini of the Environmental Command, there is incidence of the species in the region, but the population is not to fear, since attacks on humans like this have no records.
The CABM has already called Ibama and Sema-RS for the appropriate technical and legal measures to be adopted, including animal monitoring and risk assessment for the local population.
The guidance to the population is to maintain a distance from large wild animals and immediately trigger the phone 190 or the nearest environmental battalion in case of sighting.
