It would be unwise to act on rates before seeing Q2 data – Fabio Panetta

Commenting on a possible rate hike in July, European Central Bank (ECB) executive board member, Fabio Panettasaid on Thursday that “it would be unwise to act on rates before seeing second quarter data”.

The ECB could end the cycle of negative rates after deciding when to end QE in the third quarterPanetta said.

He went on to say that the ECB needs to “fight inflation, we also need to strengthen European cooperation.”

“The digital euro would be a solid and reliable currency, it could be issued in four or five years if the ECB and the European authorities so decide.”
