Itaipu Binacional authorities announced this Tuesday (9) that the hydroelectric power service tariff was reduced by 8.2% in 2022, the first decrease after 13 years of the rate that was “frozen”, said the Ministry of Mines. and Energy.
The so-called Unit Cost of Electricity Services (Cuse), which is one of the components of the Itaipu transfer tariff, was set at US$20.75/kW for the year 2022.
According to a statement, the parties reached an intermediate value, as Brazil defended US$18.97/kW, while Paraguay’s position was to maintain US$22.60/kW, increasing the amount available for exploration expenses.
The estimated additional income will be used to maintain the Itaipu transfer rate along the lines of the one provisionally approved by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) in December 2021, which considered the value of US$18.97/kW for Cuse, “There is, therefore, no impact for the final consumer”.
