Two museums in Milan will return several works of art on loan from Russia following requests for early return, Italian galleries said on Thursday, another sign of wider tensions over the Ukraine invasion.

Petersburg-based Hermitage Museum wrote to Milan’s Palazzo Reale asking for the return of two paintings – including ‘Young Woman with Feather Hat’ by Venetian painter Titian – on loan for ‘Tiziano and the image of women at the Venice Exhibition. of the sixteenth century.

“They will be returned before the exhibition closes on March 27,” said a spokesperson for bank Intesa Sanpaolo, which owns the collection at the gallery and at two other locations in Naples and Vicenza.

The Rome-based Fendi Foundation and another museum in the northern city of Udine have received similar requests.
