Italian organic chicken lands in Dubai

One hundred million in turnover, 70 thousand hectares of land and 2,100 companies involved: let’s talk about largest biological district in Europe whose birth – in the Marche region – was announced at Dubai Expo 2020 by the vice president of the region and regional councilor for agriculture, Mirco Carloni.

The organic district of the Marche region aims to support and promote the organic agriculture of the region and its natural products both from a technical and commercial point of view. The district includes 2,100 farms71 thousand cultivated hectares (which represent 60% of the organic surface in the Marche region) and an estimated turnover of 100 million euros, for which Fileni contributes almost 50 percent.

The district, whose formalization will take place with the adhesion to the call of the Recovery Fund dedicated to food districts, has among its pillars the company from the Marche region Fileni, which with its 500 million turnover is, after Amadori and Aia, the third national player in the poultry sector. Born out of necessity – to help the sharecropping parents, the future founder Giovanni Fileni began to breed farmyard animals half a century ago, counting on the fact that the chickens were sold immediately and the feed could be paid for 120 days – today Fileni is the first Italian brand of organic white meat.

But what exactly does organic chicken (and turkey) mean? At a table in the recently opened Basko Restaurant – in the heart of Business Bay, just before the show cooking orchestrated by chef Fileni Max Santoni – Giovanni Fileni himself replies: breeding for at least 81 days before slaughter (against an average of 65-70 days for non-organic chickens), controlled animal density (no more than five head per square meter within the farms ), Italian feeds free from GMOs and pesticides, food and water always available and, finally, guarantee of a period of darkness of at least eight hours a day.
