Italian TV series: the best to watch in streaming

In recent years, Italian TV series has experienced a gold season. Directors such as Stefano Sollima (Suburre) and Matteo Rovere (Lidia Poët’s law) and actors such as Matilda De Angelis, Alessandro Borghi and Miriam Leone have distinguished themselves in a variety of genres: crime, comedy and legal drama.

Suburra (2017–2021)

Samurai is a criminal obsessed with an ambitious project: transforming the Ostia promenade into a real Las Vegas. The man has a past as a member of the renowned band of the Magliana and knows the right political exponents.

Tear along the edges (2021–2025)

An animated series focused on adolescence, anxiety and relationships between friends was born from the voice of Zerocalcare. It tells, through flashbacks and anecdotes, the events of Sarah and Secco, directed towards something incredibly difficult.

Lidia Poët’s law (2023–)

Directed by Matteo Rovere – With Matilda De Angelis. Where to see it: Netflix.

Based on a story that really happened, the series tells the story of the first lawyer of Italy. Determined to overturn the sentence of the Turin Court of Appeal which prevents her from practicing as a lawyer finds work at the law firm of his brother Enrico, while preparing the appeal. Matilda De Angelis plays the role of the protagonist.

Petra (2020–)

Directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi – With Paola Cortellesi, Andrea Pennacchi. Where to see it: Sky and Now.

Crime psychological drama set in Genoa, in which Petra Delicato – played by Paola Cortellesi – an inspector of the furniture that tries to solve the cases of murder together with the deputy inspector Antonio Monte, an old -fashioned policeman close to retirement.

Devils (2020–)

Financial thriller between London and New York, where a young trader fights against strong powers and global intrigues. The story revolves around a world financial conspiracy, discovered by a group of businessmen from a large investment bank.

Gomorrah (2014)

Written by Roberto Saviano – With Marco D’amore and Salvatore Esposito. Where to see it: Sky and Now.

Naples is shocked by a bloody war, aimed at controlling a powerful Camorra clan. The Savastano clan is commanded by Don Pietro, a feared boss of Secondigliano. At his side many trusted men, including Ciro Di Marzio. Don Pietro entrusts the task of preparing his son Genny to the future role of head to Ciro.

Criminal novel (2008)

The series is inspired by the true story of the Magliana band, a group of criminals who tried to take control of the local underworld in the Rome of the early seventies.
