Italy: 155,659 new coronavirus cases – 155 deaths

Italy reported 157 coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday from 184 the previous day, according to the health ministry, while the daily number of new infections fell to 155,659 from 197,552.

Italy has recorded 139,038 deaths linked to the COVID-19 coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020, the second highest death toll in Europe after Britain and the ninth highest in the world. The country has reported 7.436 million cases so far.

The number of patients admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 – excluding those in the intensive care unit – amounted to 15,647 on Sunday, from 14,930 a day earlier.

There were 142 new admissions to intensive care units, compared to 154 on Saturday. The total number of patients admitted to intensive care units increased to 1,595 from 1,557 previously.

About 993,201 tests for the coronavirus were performed the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.
