Italy: 17,030 new coronavirus cases and 74 deaths

In the last twenty-four hours, 17,030 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Italy and 74 people have lost their lives. In total, 588,000 diagnostic tests were performed, 2.9% of which were positive.

There are 708 patients with the virus in the intensive care units of the country, while there are 5,385 in the hospital wards. In total, there are 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus with the Omicron variant in Italy. The latter was located today in the Veneto region. This is a man of forty years, who does not show worrying symptoms.

According to the Italian Higher Institute of Health, meanwhile, the largest increase in cases is recorded in the northeastern regions of the country, and in citizens aged 20 to 30 years. “In Italy, too, there is an increase in cases, albeit more limited than in many other European countries,” the institute added.

In total, 50% of the country’s population over the age of 80 has received the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine. It is a matter of concern, however, that almost 3.5 million people aged 30 to 59 have not even received the first dose of the vaccine.
