Italy: 58.9% jump in coronavirus cases last week

Coronavirus cases have risen by 58.9% in Italy in the past week, according to data from the Gimbe Scientific Institute. At the same time, patient admissions to hospital wards increased by 14.4% and to intensive care units by 12.6%.

In total, from June 15 to June 21, 255,442 new cases of Covid 19 were recorded and the increase in cases affects all regions of the country.

As far as the vaccination campaign is concerned, there are still 6,850,000 citizens over the age of 5 who have not even received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine. The vaccinations of the last week are 8% less than the previous one.

The Gimbe Foundation opposes the abolition of home isolation for HIV-positive people, a possibility mentioned by Italian Deputy Health Minister Andrea Costa.

Due to the increase in cases of sub-variant BA.4 and BA.5, it is finally underlined that the admissions of patients with coronavirus to hospitals in the last seven days are 700 more than the previous week.
