Italy: 77,621 new infections, 170 deaths due to Covid-19

Italy today announced 77,621 new cases of coronavirus, compared to 99,457 yesterday Tuesday, according to data from the country’s Ministry of Health. In the last 24 hours, 170 patients lost their lives due to complications of Covid-19.

Italy has seen 159,224 deaths since the pandemic began. This is the second worst report in Europe after Britain and the eighth worst in the world. Confirmed cases of Covid-19 total 14.6 million as of February 2020.

There are currently 9,871 patients with Covid-19 in simple hospital beds (401 more than yesterday Tuesday). 50 patients were admitted to intensive care units (ICU), four more than in the previous 24 hours. A total of 481 carriers of the virus are currently being treated in the ICU.

In the last 24 hours, 524,899 coronavirus tests were performed, according to the Italian Ministry of Health.
