We can, indeed we must, talk about AIDS today. Because it is not a syndrome that we can relegate to the past, on the contrary: today, after the pandemic period, the infections have returned to rise. Covid, with its limited and regulated access to health facilities, has led to the phenomenon of underdiagnosis: according toHigher Institute of Healthbetween 2021 and 2022 there were about 3 thousand new cases. The majority of infections occur, for more than80%, by sexual transmission in the population range from 25 to 40 years old approximately, equally distributed between heterosexuals and homosexuals.
Worrying is the percentage of late diagnoses which from 2015 to 2022 continues to grow, keeping the circulation of the virus high, as well as worrying is the lack of knowledge about HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among younger people. The number of deaths in people with AIDS it remains stable and is currently particularly high: approx. a 500 cases a year.
Here’s what to do information contributes to prevention And prevention fights contagion, for all pathologies, but in particular for AIDS. Spreading a culture of well-being and awareness becomes a priority, always and above all encouraging condom use, PrEP prophylaxis and customary HIV testing.
In this context and with this objective, he returns to Italy for the fourth year Italy Baresthe charity event created with Anlaids Lombardia ETS in the double role of supporter and beneficiary, which will take place at the Repower Theater in Assago Thursday 11 May at 9pm. A show entitled “Second half”which across the world of soccerintends to talk about the fight against prejudices.
For the second consecutive year the singer will take the stage Malika Ayanethe conductor and speaker of Radio DeeJay Diego Passoni, supporter of the project since the first edition. It will be the first time, however, for the actor Giampiero Ingrassia.
An appointment that has been repeated since 2019, the year in which, thanks to the intuition of Giorgio Camandonaand which over the years has managed to gather around itself a community of artists, industry professionals and institutions, all with the same goal: to be there and raise money to fight HIV and AIDS and raise public awareness for a culture of prevention, against all forms of stigmatisation. «I am proud to have brought to Italy an artistic event with a strong social and emotional value – says Giorgio Camandona – And, although the event is getting bigger and bigger every year, I feel the same joy and kindness of the first edition in the people who participate , their will to be there».
In addition to the great guests present, 8 important choreographers will perform on stage, as well as 100 of the best performers on the Italian artistic scene, 12 singers, acrobats, cheerleaders. As can be deduced from the title, the theme addressed in the new show, written by Elisabetta Tulli and Guglielmo Scilla, is that of sport and in particular football.
In addition to emphasizing the importance of sports as prevention for many pathologies, promoting a healthy lifestyle, a sport like football becomes fundamental for the issue of inclusion And sharing owned by Italy Bares, against prejudices and taboos which often, unfortunately, still survive within this environment.
The theme of prevention must be tackled from an early age: that’s why on the morning ofMay 11th will be dedicated to high school, who will be able to attend, free of charge, the general rehearsal of the show. Students will have the opportunity to interact with Andrew Goripresident of Anlaids Lombardia, with Giorgio Camandonaartistic director of Italy Bares, and with the Anlaids experts for a discussion on the subject of prejudice and stigma.
This moment in the theater assumes an important and conclusive meaning of a training course that Anlaids has carried out throughout an entire school year with commitment and great collaboration within the institutes, speaking to many young people about prevention and well-being.
A special contribution will be made by the presence of Elena DiCioccio, author of the book Bad blood (Vallardi editions), which tells a life marked by coexistence with a stigmatizing virusthe novel-testimony of a woman who had the courage to face her wounds, accept her vulnerability and transform a sentence into an act of love for herself and for others.
«Anlaids’ commitment, for over 30 years, has been to reach many people and in many directions by speaking of prevention and well-being – declares Andrea Gori, president of Anlaids Lombardia ETS – Addressing issues such as HIV, AIDS and increasingly fighting the new emerging infections. The many ways we have found, the many friends who help us in our work, are a fundamental part of this commitment: I think of the doctors, researchers, operators, teachers, donors, institutions, I think of the large family of Convivio and, now, to Italy Bares which confirms how the world of art and entertainment can and must do its part because global health belongs to everyone, for everyone».
Italy Bares is inspired by Broadway Bares, an American project born in 1992 in response to the crisis caused by HIV and AIDS, conceived by choreographer and director Jerry Mitchell who will be at the Repower Theater on May 11 alongside Italian performers. The show is made with Anlaids Lombardy ETS, Compagnia della Rancia, with the support of Stage Entertainment and this year with the Patronage of the Municipality of Milan. The direction is by Mauro Simone, the associate direction by Alfonso Lambo and the original music by Antonio Torella, who will also take care of the musical direction with Elena Nieri.
The show tells about Ninoan intelligent and ambitious young man, who is making football his profession and feels invulnerable. His days are spent between training, nightlife and frequent changes of partners. A very different life from that of Leo, his teammate, who never misses an opportunity to underline Nino’s unreliability. After a series of sudden fevers, Nino is forced to undergo tests and discovers he is HIV positive. The news goes viral and destroys his private life and career. Nino withdraws into himself to the point of almost wishing he were no longer there, but thanks to social media, he becomes the architect of his conscious rebirth. Nino, with determination, thus builds his own “second half”: the social networks that had destroyed, hated and made him feel “wrong” become the most important communication channel to regain the freedom to tell his own story and that of a virus that has changed over the years.
