Italy-coronavirus: 149,512 new cases and 248 deaths

Italy reported 149,512 new cases of the COVID-19 virus on Sunday, after 180,426 the previous day, according to the health ministry, while the death toll fell to 248 from 308.

According to Reuters, Italy has recorded 141,104 deaths related to COVID-19 since the outbreak of its epidemic in February 2020, the second highest rate in Europe after Britain and the ninth highest in the world. The country has reported 8.71 million cases so far.

The number of patients admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 – excluding those in the intensive care unit – amounted to 18,719 on Sunday, from 18,370 a day earlier.

There were 128 new admissions to intensive care units, up from 141 on Saturday. The total number of patients admitted to intensive care units increased to 1,691 from 1,677 previously.

About 927,846 coronavirus tests were performed the day before, up from 1.22 million previously, the health ministry said.
