Italy recorded 36 coronavirus-related deaths today, up from 53 yesterday, according to the health ministry, while the daily number of new infections fell to 7,569 from 8,544 yesterday.
Italy has recorded 132,775 COVID-19-related deaths since the pandemic broke out in February 2020, the second-highest death toll in Europe after Britain and the ninth highest in the world. The country has so far recorded 4.9 million infections.
The number of COVID-19 patients excluding those in intensive care units was 3,647 today, up from 3,597 yesterday.
Twenty-nine new admissions to ICUs were recorded today, compared to 39 yesterday. The total number of patients admitted to the ICU increased to 458 from 453.
About 445,593 tests for COVID-19 were performed in the past 24 hours compared to 540,371 in the previous 24 hours, the health ministry said.
