It was very difficult for the situation in Italy with the coronavirus pandemic as cases increased in the last week (from June 29 to July 5) by 55%, according to data from the Gimbe scientific institute. At the same time, patient admissions to hospitals showed an increase of 32.6%, to ICUs of the country by 36.3%, while deaths increased by 18.4%.
The Gimbe Foundation adds that the increase is continuous and that there is a large percentage of cases, which are not recorded. “The high percentage of the population that is positive for the virus risks causing a “new de facto lockdown”, including in the tourism sector”refers to the scientific report, as reported by the correspondent of the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.
“At this stage, the administration of the fourth dose of the vaccine to the elderly and vulnerable groups must be accelerated, but also the use of the mask must be significantly increased”, emphasized the president of Gimbe, Nino Cartabelota.
The region of Italy in which last week it was recorded the biggest increase in coronavirus cases is Lombardy, with a percentage of 95.9%, while the most limited spread of the virus was found in Sardinia, with a 24.7% increase in incidents. “There are substantial reasons for concern, because admissions of patients to hospitals in the coming weeks are expected to continue to increase,” said the president of the Gimbe Foundation.
