Italy: enlarged Lockdown ahead of Easter

Half Italy from Monday it turns into a red zone until April 6. That is, until the Easter of the Catholics passes. Decision necessary due to the continuous increase of cases and the spread of the virus to children. Yesterday the infections amounted to 26,824. It essentially looks like the country came back four months ago. In all areas that will be declared a red zone, teaching will be done exclusively remotely via computer.

The bet of Mario Draghi’s government is in the coming weeks, on the one hand to limit the new incidents and on the other hand to be able to finally start the mass vaccination campaign. 170,000 vaccines are now given daily. The goal, as the Italian technocratic prime minister said, is to be able to triple this number soon “by vaccinating the citizens in every suitable place”. The priority criterion will now be only age and state of health and not professional status.

Even Matteo Salvini’s Lega, which is part of the new government, has not resisted tougher measures despite its constant demands for the reopening of all stores and businesses.

Italy, meanwhile, has signed its first industrial production agreement in the coming months against the coronavirus vaccine, which has already received the green light from European authorities. It was not immediately clear who he was.

Finally, there is concern in Italy about the three citizens who died a few hours after receiving the Astrazeneca vaccine. “We have no evidence that the vaccine is to blame,” the authorities insist. In Sicily, however, a public prosecutor’s investigation was launched with 22 court summonses for apology, and there were some cancellations of citizens who decided not to go for vaccination. At the moment, however, trust prevails.
