Italy: far-right candidate seeks help from Sicilian mafia to run in municipal elections

In Italy the candidate of the far-right party Brothers of Italy, Francesco Lombardoit was revealed that he had relations with the Sicilian mafiaas he asked for help to be elected in the municipal elections as a municipal councilor in Palermo.

According to the Athenian News Agency, the 54-year-old Lombardo arrested on charges of vote-dealing with the mafiabecause it was found that he had openly asked his godfather Cosa Nostra, to support him with all the power at his disposal, to be elected to the municipal council of the capital of Sicily.

In dialogues recorded by the police, talks to mobster godfather Vincenzo Vela who was sentenced to 20 years in prison and was recently released due to a “bureaucratic trap”.

In fact, a few days ago, Pietro Politsi, a candidate of the Berlusconi party Forza Italia, the godfather Agostino Sansone and his collaborator, Manlio Poretto, were arrested on the same charge.

According to Italian media, the Sansone family had hosted Cosa Nostra leader Toto Reina in a mansion they owned shortly before his 1993 arrest.
