The Italian Federation of Hotels Federalberghi has sounded the alarm today regarding the cost of energy and its impact on businesses in the tourism sector. “After two years of terrible trials, while our companies were trying to get back on their feet, they are now again without oxygen,” emphasized the president of Federalberghi, Bernanbo Boca.
At the same time, he spoke of the great concern caused by “the ever-increasing cost of energy, galloping inflation and signs of an economic recession”.
The Italian Hotel Federation presented a survey carried out with a sample of 2,000 rooms, in fifteen hotel units. On average, each hotel pays 94,000 euros per month for electricity and 26,000 for natural gas. The entire cost, last July, compared to July 2021, tripled.
In the meantime, in the next few days the Draghi government is expected to approve new support measures for households and businesses. The Italian Finance Ministry has confirmed that every possible effort is being made with the aim of not increasing the country’s public deficit.
According to the press, the main interventions expected to be approved include the extension, until the end of the year, of the tax refund for companies that consume large amounts of energy. At the same time, however, all possible avenues are being explored, so that the measure of the Draghi government regarding the payment of taxes by the companies in the energy sector, which in recent months have recorded super profits, can be respected.
